에리자베스 한인교회의 사명은 미국내의 한인 교포사회 속에서 ‘지상위임령' ( 마태복음 28: 18-20) 과 ‘가장 큰 계명' ( 마가복음 12:29-31)을 수행하는 것이다 . 본 교회는 뉴져지 중부지역과 인근지역에 거주하는 한인 이민자들에게 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 복음과 사랑을 전파하는 것을 목적으로 한다 . 그러한 전도사역과 더불어 본 교회의 목표는 사람들에게 하나님의 말씀을 가르치고 양육하여 그들이 세상에 나가 선교와 화해의 부르심을 받드는 하나님의 백성들이 되도록 하는 것이다 . 본 교회는 또한 1 세 이민자들과 2 세 혹은 3 세 자녀들간에 존재하는 문화적 , 언어적 간격과 세대차를 성공적으로 극복한 이민목회의 전형을 제시하고자 한다 .
그러한 사명을 달성하기 위하여 본 교회는 다음의 활동목표에 중점을 둔다 . 곧 신령한 예배 , 철저한 교육 , 풍성한 교제 , 열심 있는 전도와 정성어린 봉사 등이다 . 예배와 교육과 교제를 통해 본 교회는 교인들의 신앙과 생활을 강화하고 육성하며 , 전도와 봉사를 통해 교회 밖의 사람들을 하나님께로 인도하여 그들도 세상속에서 진행되는 하나님의 역사에 동참케 한다 . 본 교회는 또한 대학생 , 대학원생 , 직장인들로 구성된 영어예배부 사역을 활성화시키기 위해 노력을 경주한다 . 영어예배부는 한인 2 세 뿐만 아니라 아시아인 , 흑인 , 남미인 등 여타 인종들에게도 선교사역을 감당하고자 한다 .
미국 장로교에 속한 교회로서 본 교회는 수세기에 걸친 미국 장로교 전통의 풍부한 영적 유산을 공유한다 . 동시에 한국 장로교의 후예로서 본 교회는 한국 장로교 신앙의 뜨거운 열정과 선교에의 헌신을 이어 받는다 . 더불어 미국의 토양에 이식된 한국 이민교회로서 본 교회는 복합된 역사 , 문화 , 언어 , 전통의 비옥한 경험을 자양분으로 삼는다 . 이러한 모든 자원을 토대로 본 교회는 하나님의 교회들을 새롭게 하고 이 땅 위에 하나님의 통치를 확장시키는 데에 이바지하고자 한다 . |
The mission of the Korean Presbyterian Church of Elizabeth is to carry out the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20) and the Great Commandment (Mark 12:29-31) in the context of the Korean-American immigrant society. The church aims at reaching out to Korean immigrants residing in Central New Jersey, including its surrounding areas, with the gospel and love of our Lord Jesus Christ. Along with its outreach ministry, the Church makes it a goal to edify the people in the nurture and instruction of God's word, so that they may be the people of God who will fulfill the calling of mission and reconciliation in the world. The Church also intends to present a model ministry in which the task of bridging the cultural, generation, and language gap between the first-generation immigrants and their second- or third-generation posterity is attained.
To accomplish such goals, the Church puts great emphases on the following activities: spiritual worship, thorough education, abundant fellowship, ardent evangelism, and cordial service. Through worship, education, and fellowship, the Church endeavors to build up the faith and life of its members; and through evangelism and service, it strives to lead the people outside of the Church to God and God's ongoing work in the world. The Church also makes efforts to strengthen the English Language Ministry, whose membership comprises collegians, post-graduates, and young professionals. They will perform the outreach ministry not only to second-generation Korean-Americans, but also to Asian-Americans, Hispanics, and other ethnic people.
As a member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.),. the Church has recourse to the abounding spiritual heritage of centuries-old American Presbyterian tradition. As an offspring of the Korean Presbyterian Church, the Church draws on the overflowing enthusiasm and dedication to mission of the Korean Presbyterian faith. As a Korean immigrant church transplanted onto the American soil, the Church resorts to fertile experience of mixture of history, culture, language, and tradition. With all these resources combined, the Church hopes to bring about the revitalization of God's churches and the furtherance of God's reign in the world. |
